The Mad Science mission is to spark the imagination and curiosity of children in Maine by providing them with fun, entertaining and educational activities that instill a clear understanding of what science is really about and how it affects the world around us. Keeping Maine children engaged and entertained in the summer time for 14 years now, Mad Science camps are truly unique experiences.

These unique summer day camps give children the opportunity to “DO” science and are guaranteed to engage and expand your child's mind, as well as offer them a big dose of fun! Available camps at the Augusta location include:

• Brixology & Engineering (Ages 6-12): Get ready for the Bridges, Bricks, Blast-Off Brigade! Campers step into the shoes of engineers in this Mad Science FUN'gineered camp full of rockets, wacky machines, flying devices, roller coasters, and BRICKS! Two days of the Mad Science BRIXOLOGY program are merged with 3 days of the “Adventures in Engineering” Camp to inspire our next generation of engineers in mechanical, structural, aerospace, and nautical fields.

• Reactions in Action (Ages 6-12): Shake up a flask of fun and take a walk on the wild side of chemistry! Bubbling potions, slimy polymers, color-changing liquids, flying foam, dry ice bubbles and solids that disappear in an instant! Slide down the PH scale, break molecules, make glowing concoctions and freeze your breath away with dry ice. Take home a full set of Mad Science lab gear, a lab coat, safety goggles, glowing spheres, slime and much more!

• Mission: Code (Ages 7-12): a unique summer camp experience that allows kids to learn essential coding skills while also engaging in active games and hands-on learning.The combination of online activities paired with engaging offline activities like scavenger hunts, programming a witty robot, inventing a droid,  code-cracking mysteries and team robotics challenges that keep kids active and reinforce coding skills is a winning formula for fun in the summer! Children will be given access to this coding platform for up to 1 year.

• Makers of the Future (Ages 7-12): this cutting-edge camp is guaranteed to inspire the emerging inventor, designer, artist, engineer, and tinkerer. STEAM thinking gets activated through hands-on exploration with intelligent robots, stop-motion animation, game design, and app-enabled building blocks that teach innovation. MAKE and take-home an electric wiggle bot, circuit creature, moving picture device, mechanical grabber, and so much more. This camp shows every child that the future is theirs for the MAKE-ing!

• Super Duper Science Sampler (Ages 6-12): For the camper who wants to try it all, this Mad Science Variety Camp includes fast paced experiments with lasers, electricity, power and energy, chemistry and magnets! Stir up some crazy concoctions and get creative with Squishy Circuits. Use lasers to send music across the room. Make crystals and magnetic putty. Build a take-home fiber optic light, solar powered device and much more!

• Eureka: Inventors Camp (Ages 6-12): Recreate some of the most important and exciting inventions of all time! Overcome a series of challenges and dream up inventions for the future. Build Rude Goldberg machines, construct ping-pong ball launchers, fabricate innovative flying contraptions, design gizmo prototypes, build light sabers, mousetrap contraption cars, mini-space stations and other wacky inventions!

• Spy Academy (Ages 6-12): Step into the shoes of a detective and uncover the science of evidence gathering and analysis. Become a secret agent spy by navigating tripwires, decoding messages and creating your own secret communications. Check out spy equipment and discover the techniques of crime scene investigators! Spy-themed take-home projects are built every day.

• Robot Recruit (Ages 7-12): Become a robot engineer and build unique motorized robots! Discover the inner workings of robots by experimenting with circuits, gears, sensors and power supplies. Learn about robot programming and the different tasks robots perform in our world. Build Modular robots, program a variety of robots with an I-pad, design remote controls and snap together electronic modules to prototype your own robot!
